Rex-Hide Incorporated
Rex-Hide Incorporated has been in business since 1917 and things sure do change over 90 years. Rex-Hide began manufacturing shoe products and various molded goods in a small town in Western Pennsylvania.
During World War II, Rex-Hide was called upon to produce a "truck tire flap" for a major tire manufacturer. A truck tire flap (not to be confused with a mud flap) is an integral part of a tube type truck tires and protects the tire tube from chaffing and heat generated from the truck wheel.
Rex-Hide’s fanatical focus on efficiencies, quality and customer service allowed most major tire companies (who historically competed with Rex-Hide) to exit the flap business and buy their flaps from us. Rex-Hide became the largest manufacturer of truck tire flaps in the world.
To meet the needs of the industry and to protect our customers from a single location production facility Rex-Hide opened a second facility in Tyler, Texas in the mid - 1970s.
Even as Rex-Hide was expanding operations in Tyler, Rex-Hide knew that ultimately most trucks tires would become tubeless and thereby greatly reduce the demand for tire flaps. In anticipation of the shrinking market for truck tire flaps, Rex-Hide began diversifying into other industries and other markets.
In 1977 Rex-Hide's corporate headquarters was moved to Tyler, Texas where we are located today. We now have companies in six states throughout the United States. Through growth in other markets and through the attrition of tube type truck tires, flaps have become a small part of our overall business.
However, we are proud to have navigated these changes and today we continue to grow through organic growth of our operating companies and a continued focus on acquiring new businesses.
We look forward to the next 100 years of continued growth and continued success based on a 90 year old recipe of honesty, hard work and customer focus.
